  • Background Checks

I am curious to see what company many of you use for background checks.  I am looking to make a change and would like some recommendations. Thanks!

I use a company that is in Greensboro N. C called "Insight - a FirstPoint Information Resource."  I have used this company for three years now to complete background checks for my agency that is Fire and EMS based. We have some stringent requirements mandated by the state and due to the nature of our work. You may email me for contact information if you like. I am very pleased with the turn around time, never more than 48 hours and most of the time the next business day. They are through, very reasonable in price and just good people to work with.

We responded at the same time, I was talking to IT.  Big Smile

I use Imperative Information Group.  They work nationwide but they have some Texas specific discounts because they are located here, which makes certain county records much more accessible than if they were located in, say, NEW YORK CITY!

We use USIS.  I believe it is one of the largest.  We have been fairly satisfied with their criminal history check.  We do not use for credit or any other screenings.

We fax them to the local police department. The turn around time is usually 48 hours and it's free. The drawback is that sometimes they miss things outside of the state. A good background checking service is worth the investment if you want to protect your business liabilities.

Cris, have you ever obtained any authoritative information about whether or not FCRA applies when you get your background check information from a government agency?  There are counties that put this stuff up on the web for public searching, for example or, like you, someone actually uses the police.  Do the police become a "consumer reporting agency" for the purposes of the act?
