Do English-only policies violate any laws? My company wants to have one, but I am worried about it.

I don't think you can enforce English-only policies during breaks, lunch, etc.

There is an article on HR.BLR.com regarding a 2005 court case related to an English-only rule. You may find the article helpful and it is located at http://hr.blr.com/display.cfm/id/16848. The article provides information on the EEOC's guidance related to English-only rules in the workplace. An employer seeking to implement an English-only policy must show that it is a business necessity.
