We have a rumors and gossip policy in our employee handbook. Here it is - short and sweet:

If you hear a business related rumor, please ask your supervisor if there is any merit to the rumor. It is your supervisor's job to keep you informed.

Personal gossip can be vicious and at times harmful to the person beng gossiped about. Participating in idle gossip does not fit within our core values. Do not participate.

Code of conduct can also be applied if you have one.
