    Hello All,

My company is just starting to develop a Arc Flash plan of attack.  I was wondering if others are following NFPA 70E and if you have completed an Arc Flash analysis.  The analysis looks difficult and may require the help of a engineer (which may be expensive).  I was thinking of using the tables included in 70E for PPE and approach boundries to develop my sites hazard/risk catagory and PPE requirements.  Any thoughts?

Did you get any helpful responses?  We're starting to implement the samething here and the quotes for outside services have been around $7,000 - that includes some training and the analysis.

    Hi,

I set up 70 E training for my company at a cost of about $15,000 for everything which included the engineer. I'm not sure it was worth the $15,000 for the training that was done, but if it prevents one accident its worth it.

You can utilize 70E as a guidance document, but you need to meet the parameters set forth at the bottom of Table 130.7(C)(9)(A). If you do fall into these categories, your HRC would increase.

There are quite a bit of outfits doing the analysis now. PE's are used to gather and input data into various software programs (Easy Power, SKM). I've also seen businesses purchase the software and send individuals off to train on how to do the analysis internally. Either way, your looking at a cost.
