I have been instructing CPR/AED/First Aid for ten plus year. I teach American Heart Association (AHA), American Safety & Health Instutite (ASHI) and Medic First Aid (MFA).

Each CPR/First Aid program offers a variety of recertification date:

MFA: I can certify someone for one or two years in CPR/FA.

AHA: I only instruct AHA CPR programs and offer a two year certification.

ASHI: CPR certification-One or two years, First Aid: One, Two or Three years.

Red Cross: CPR 1 year & First Aid 3 yrs.

Most of my clients go with the Two year cert. for both CPR/FA.

Online Courses: Both ASHI & AHA have an online course. To the best of my knowledge, the AHA course is for BLS healthcare provider only. ASHI use Emergency University and their program offers not only CPR and first aid but they also offer AED, BBP and other health related programs. The Online (Blended training) courses tend to cost more initially but if you do the math, they can actually save a company lot of money because you do not have to pay for overtime, employeees take the training when ever they want, you are not paying the 4 or 8 hrs for the employee to stay in a classroom etc. My clients that have tried the online training have really like it.

In Vermont the Red Cross CPR re-certs are done annually and First Aid every 3. Not sure if it differes from State to state. I believe American Heart maybe good for two years for CPR

    Hi Deb,

I'm sure you have an agreement between yourself and the company you are doing business with. Did you create that document yourself? If not, where could I get one. New CPR instructor. Any tips you have to offer are welcomed.
