I am in the midst of reviewing options for company car leases, and in our quest to become "greener", I am considering the possibility of hybrids/Prius. I know that we could save money on fuel for our traveling sales department, and that for PR, it may be a good move, but I have some reservations and was hoping that folks may have some info to share.

    1. are these cars really greener? I've been hearing that, for example, there is no recycling for the prius engine, which is turning into a problem.

    2. employee satisfaction - is limiting employee choice a good idea?

    3. general performance - I want to make sure that my employees aren't stranded anywhere, etc.

any input is much appreciated! thanks--

The hybridds are loaded with batteries which pose a large problem when it comes time to dispose of them.  I have read some background information regarding the manufacturing costs of hybrids as well.  The costs of producing the raw materials which make up the car are very high.  Of course, neither of these things is advertised or acknowledged by the public.  People want to see them as "green" and cost effective so that is what they see.  For the short term bottom line, hybrids will save your company money.  For the longer term greener bottom line, total costs, from inception to grave need to be taken into account.
