Some of my employees are anticipating buying plug-in hybrid vehicles in the next 2 years as they become available. A few of these employees live in apartment buildings with on street parking and do not have easy access to electricity for the vehicles. One mentioned that it would be very convenient if she were able to plug-in somehow at work.

Our company has a green policy, and encourages car pooling, gas saving efforts, etc. I would like to tell her that we may be able to accommodate her request, but I have doubts - we wouldn't pay for her gas for her commute, so why would we pay for the electricity? On the other hand, is there is a way that an arrangement could be made?

I know the wide us of plug-ins is far off, but my facility is located in California where I think there will be widespread interest. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Joe,

You could have a separate power drop installed with its own meter installed. Have the employees enroll in a program and on a monthly basis charge them a monthly fee. The fee will cover the cost of the electricity. If they don't use the drops, they still pay until they un-enroll. Works just like a gym membership.

Any profits from the program could go to your favorite green program.

     Just a thought.
