  • Need training quick guide/matrix

Has anyone seen a good quick-guide or matrix that will show me all the safety training requirements that are related by industry or type of job? For example, we're a small electric power generator with maintenance employees who do a mix of electrical, lockout/tagout, electric and mechanical hand trucks, cleaning with chemicals, and a couple people we want to designate as first-aiders. Now we want to make sure we match up each person with the right combo of training--we've got 2 new guys coming in and several experienced people may need some retraining. Any quick way to see what we need for training without looking up every rule?

Go to www.ohsa.gov and look up OSHA publication 2254. At 100+ pages it certainly is not a quick guide, but it does spell out the requirments for all the standards. And you can skip over those that don't apply to you. It's pretty easy to scan it for the applicable regs to find out what is needed. Previous versions of this document had a table that I found very useful as a quick guide.

BLR has or had a publication as well. It is basically the same as the OSHA publication, but a little easier to read. I have not found it available on this site. I think I got my copy as a free gift for trial on one of their products.

A Google search may turn up something a little more concise, but you always need to validate the info you find that way.
