  • 3 Way Plugs

I have a subcontractor hanging cabinets in a condominium building under construction and he is using two (2) three way plugs for his extension cords. The problem I see with this is both of the three way plugs are plugged into each other. Is this allowed?? There are no "directions" on the plug letting you know the maximum voltage that the plugs can take. It looked weird to me so I was just wondering if this is allowed.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand your description of what is happening.  By "three way plug" do you mean a multiple outlet extension cord or power strip?  And are you describing a situation where an extension cord is plugged into another extension cord to increase its length?  This practice is not permissable.  AN extension cord if needed should be of the appropriate length to get the job done without "piggy backing" one into another.  While a cord may not be labelled with the maximum rating, the wire size of the conductors used in the cord will define the maximum load allowed.  An electrician can tell you what those limits are.   Remember, too, the extension cords should be GFCI equipped.

I guess it would actually be called a power cord adaptor...I tried to attach a picture but I can't figure out how!

Maybe this link to something similar can work:

    http://www.americord.com/adapters/prod_334.html

I had someone plugging TWO of these together in order to plug in 6 cords.

I would venture to say that this is not allowed. As stated before...extension cords should be of the length you need without adding additional cords to increase length.
