    Quick question:

My uniform supplier has offered my company a work shirt to replace an older style.

One of my concerns is this new shirt has metal buttons, and I was wondering if anyone has a specific OSHA/NFPA 70/70E regulation or standard prohibiting metal buttons on shirts.

    Thanks!

    djdonahue,

    From 1910.333(c)(8)

"Conductive apparel." Conductive articles of jewelry and clothing (such a watch bands, bracelets, rings, key chains, necklaces, metalized aprons, cloth with conductive thread, or metal headgear) may not be worn if they might contact exposed energized parts. However, such articles may be worn if they are rendered nonconductive by covering, wrapping, or other insulating means.

So OSHA says its ok as long as they don't come in contact, but arc flash doesn't require contact right? Only proximity? I would talk to your supplier and see if you can get the buttons changed out with some plastics. If they won't, shop around, someone will.
