Looking for safety week ideas. I would love to know what others did for a safety week at their company. Please post ideas here so we can all see them.

Nicole has it right on this one.  The key is not to disqualify someone from any safety award only if there is an accident (which so many others do).   I love that there is nothing given if they do not report it.  Most incentive programs disqualify awards when there is an accident.  This promotes people not to report accidents, which in turn only brings down the umbers until something serious happens and it has to be reported (there go your profits).  The thing to remember is people should be rewarded for things they can quantify and are in their control, i.e. toolbox talks, near misses reported, site audits, wearing the proper PPE; not if they don't have (or report) an accident.

As a Loss Control Consultant for a WC Insurance company, I see a varity of safety incentive programs. As metioned in other replies you have to avoid setting-up you program that employees do not report injuries. I see two ways of doing it: 1) have employees eligable for it till they are eligable for salary compensation in wc and when you see employees limping, rubbing, etc., ask why. 2) as others have metioned make it behivor based. Attending safety meeting, training, etc. making safety suggustions and catching employee in safe behavior.

I too am new to the message board & am excited about all the information & ideas to be shared!

Our safety incentive program isn't an incentive - its a entitlement.  Currently employees start out with $155 that is a gift card - if they have a recordable or lost time incident dollars are deducted from total.   I have had the safety coordinator position for 2 years & am attempting to change the program so all EE's have an equal chance to EARN their reward; starting with zero up to 155 or whatever points / dollars are determined.   We have a very good safety record (we are a machine shop with 75 employees plant & office) however; I know that near misses are not being reported & the some minor accidents have been buried & gone unreported.   We've seen much improvement with our EE based safety team & ERT member involvement.  I've implemented bi-monthly tool box talks & "caught you working safe" immediate rewards ($10 gas cards).

The safety bucks, bingo & wheel ideas are all very interesting & bring something new & exciting to the same ol' same ol' things.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me more details on your program - how you determine what amount is valued for what items; who determines when someone has earned a safety buck; do the suprvisors feel like this is one more thing to add to their job duties (I'm dealing with that issue as well)

Thanks much for any and all information - Look forward to talking with you.....                 Kathy Foster  RE&D/Curwood
