EPA recently partnered with several cell phone companies to encourage a better turn out for cell phone recycling. As part of the Plug-In to eCycling program you can either drop off your old phone or mail it in. Has anyone had any experiences with this? Do you think that this program will make you or your company more likely to recycle old phones?

While I have not had any experiences with the EPA program I helped implement a cell phone recycling program at a Military Base.  Working cell phones were collected at various points throughout the base and we then donated them to a local organization that would reprogram them to only dial 911.  The group then provided them to women who have been abused and needed a means of contacting the authorities in the event of an emergency.  Unfortunately I can not remember the name of the organization off the top of my head but I know that there are other local organizations throughout the US that provide this service and it is a very good way to reduce the number of still working electronic products in the landfills.
