  • Testing for Grade D Breathing Air

I am in the process of installing a Supplied Air Respiratory Program for our PAPR's using plant air. I know we are required to to gain NIOSH approval by conducting a contaminant permeation test to insure the air is a Grade D prior to installation. Does anyone know if a secondary test is required after installation?

    Dear Xenia,

I'm a bit confused. It sounds like you are going to be attaching a compressed air line to an air purifying unit. If so, then the air on the exit side of the purifying unit needs to be demonstrated to be Grade D.

It has been a while but I thought all breathing air had to generated through an oil-less compressor.

I do have a oil-less compressor, but it is my understanding that before the unit can be installed I have to test the air supply to insure it is Grade D. Which I have, but am a bit confused with the requirements on testing again after the the instalation.
