  • Reclassifying Facility from LQG to SQG Status - Process

I have been tasked with evaluating my company's status as a Hazardous Waste Generator, here in California.  For years we have been maintaining our compliance requirements as a Large Quantity Generator, although for the past 5 years the amount of Hazardous Waste we have purchased, consumed in manufacturing process, stored on site etc. has dropped dramatically.

The Senior Staff has approved a project that includes reclassifying our facility from a LQG to a Small Quantity Generator, and providing a summary of the benefits that the reclassification will provide (reduced compliance requirements, 180-day HazWaste Storage allowances, etc.)

Does anyone have any experience with obtaining the LQG or SQG status, and the process by which I can change our facility to a SQG, both Federally and in California?  Any suggestions, help, recommendations, any experience you are willing to share is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!
