jfb48:Anybody out there currently use a safety incentive program? My boss just came back from a conference with an idea for me to set up an incentive program. His plan is for each department to "compete" against one another for best safety record. But we haven't discussed the best way to do it - i am sure it is complicatd. .
If you are using one, what kind of program do you use? Does it really work. Any ideas or info on this would be greatly appreciated.
I don't like "compete" programs, they don't build team work. In the workplace today, violent situations are becoming more prevalent. The focus should be more on heading off violent situations before they happen, rather than how to deal with them after they occur. By teaching employees the importance of teamwork (TEAM-Together Everyone Achieves More) the goal of management is achieved. Employees can share in the enthusiasm and pride of a job well done, as well as the importance of each individual's contributions in working as a team, rather than focusing on disappointments or comparisons with co-workers that could foster hostile feelings. If you give to one, give to all. They will work together to get the job done.
