We started an incentive program for FY 07 - tied to recordables (which is not the best thing to do); however, we added one twist. All safety training must be completed by the due date and submitted with signed training rosters and any other information that I request. Every Monday I send out a new training topic with the due date of end of shift on Friday of that week. Twice a month I have a training video they have to show, and leader sheets and quizzes that have to be turned in.
If the supervisor doesn't do the training, or if they showed the video, but didn't fill out the sheet, or if they did the training but did not turn in signed documentation, or they did the training after the due date, that department is eliminated from the monthly incentive award - even if they did not have a recordable. This put the pressure on the supervisor to get the training completed. It's a sad day when we give out the awards and a department doesn't get it because the supervisor failed to complete the training.
In addition, departments that receive the award for 6 consecutive months, there is a special bonus - (like pizza lunch for everyone in those departments); and if they go 12 consecutive months, there is a bigger - special bonus - yet to be determined.
Monthly summary reports are posted, which clearly shows who was late, or who did not do the training. I find that the supervisors do not want their department highlighted as one who didn't get the award.
The safety team selects the award and the steering committee approves it.
