You have to cover core training topics: Fire Evacuation; Fire Extinguishers; CPR/First Aid; BBP/PPE; Ergonomics; Haz Com;
With monthly meetings that leaves you with six topics per year for you to come up with.
Work activities will often give you topics to focus on. If you’ve been noticing more back injuries then it’s time for Safe Lifting for a topic. If you’ve been noticing people using space heaters at their work station –that would be a topic there: Tell them the dangers of portable space heaters.
Sometimes I will have several small topics that I would need to tell the team members about. In an instance like that I would have Safety Potpourri. And give them three or four small topics at a time.
I get the best response from the employees when I mix it up and give them work related information along with safety information for them to use at home. After all, we want them safe at home as well as work. A lost work day is a lost work day.
Here are few topics that I’ve covered over the years:
Knife Safety
Ladder Safety
Safe Lifting
Fire Extinguisher Training
Emergency Response
Holiday Safety (Fireworks, Halloween, Christmas…)
Vacation Safety
Emergency Supplies (for home and work)

Good Housekeeping
