  • Training Tracking Database

We have been tracking health and safety training in excel spreadsheets, but it has become rather cumbersome, so we're looking into a database to help out with the tracking and reporting, etc...

We're currently evaluating this software: employee safety training tracking database which looks pretty good.  Does anyone here have experience with this software or others to recommend?

    Thanks,

    Derek

    Derek,

In my experience, the canned programs have crammed way too much stuff into their program. It gets confusing and in the way and you never really see exactly what you want to.

If you're wanting to assign training requirements, store training records, and track who is coming due, my recommendation, my recommendation is to create a design spec and have someone program it for you. This will allow you to address all those niggling issues that arise. e.g. former employees returning, contract employees versus current, one time vs. as needed training.

    Hi Derek,

I played around a bit with the training manager database you spoke of and I thought it was simple and effective for the purposes you mentioned. Very easy to use. Although, I agree with Mike that you may want to create a custom one for your specific operation. This would simply require merging your excel sheets-- and... ta da!

Depending on your company size and your budget, you should check out safety.blr.com's My Safety Manager. That tool offers what you need as well as injury and illness tracking, a center for audit info, and a calendar for scheduling compliance activities.

    Good luck!

We have created a program for tracking training completed, and training needed. It is currently being beta tested. We have also addressed individual and company licensing in this program. If you are interested in looking at it let me know.

I would recommend a web-based system such as the one developed by Intelex Technologies. It is highly customizable and very simple to implement. Their training management software allows an organization to monitor and report on employees training, cerifications and licensing. I think that there's a demo available at http://www.intelex.com/training .

I agree with gollum.  The web based systems are easy to use, and can be tailored to your needs as apposed to most canned programs that you purchase.  also, with a web based program you can access from any office as long as a computer is available.  The only down side is cost you usually pay a monthly or annual fee forever and ever.

Let me repent for being silent so long. This is a great forum site and I'm grateful to all those who contribute.

I also agree with gollum. The canned systems I have used are cumbersome, don't address all my needs and are expensive. I will look into gollum's suggestion. Thanks
