Joe,
My warehouse is located in NY. Currently there are no state mandates for recycling programs, but we have been doing so for a few years now. To get you started, check out this link: www.epa.gov/wastewise. We have been a Waste Wise Partner since late 2003. At the end of a reporting year, they will send you a summary of your reduction achievements. Since joining Waste Wise I have found a vendor to take our electronic waste. Our site upgraded all of the office PC's and this was a great outlet to responsibly dispose of the old ones. Check out this link for all of your e-waste: www.ewaste.com. I have also found tons of organizations that will take just about anything. I have two bulletin boards in the warehouse near the time clock where all of the associates can see. I post things that they can do to recycle some of their household waste. I have had associates bring items such as cell phones to me and I have recycled them by donating them to the local women's shelter. The phones then go to victims of domestic violence for emergency use. We have purchased a special recycling bucket for small batteries, and one for all of the warehouse dock lights. There is a phone number anyone can call to reduce their junk mail (Trans Union 888-5OPT-OUT or 888-567-8688).
I have tons more info. On recycling anything from stuffed animals to old sneakers. If you would like any more information please don't hesitate to contact me.
