  • Standards involving heat?

I'm having difficulty finding a regulation regarding exposure to excessive heat.  We have employees working in a mechanical room that (at times) can be over 115ºF.  We're giving them plenty of breaks to step out of the room and cool off.  They're drinking plenty of fluids (water and sports drinks).  Fortunately, nobody's shown any signs of heat exhaustion... they're just complaining about the heat.

Does anyone know of any standards or is this a General Duty Clause case?

    Justin,

From OSHA's website, it looks like it is covered under the general duty clause. It appears ACGIH has the lead with developing exposure limits. I googled "heat stress cdc" and came up with a number of good hits if you are looking for established exposure limits.

OSHA does address heat stress, although it is a general duty standard.  The following OSHA web site might help you.
