I have two different hazardous waste streams (but both are D001 waste codes). Each are generated by a different process. Can I store both in the same satellite accumualtion area as long as I do not exceed 55 gallons of either?

    Parker,

I always have to think a little harder to address satellite and accumualtion issues. So I've probably changed your definitions a little bit.

Satellite container - The container in which hazardous waste is initially placed after it comes out of the process. You can have a maximum of 55 gallons in one area regardless of how many streams there are. So an area could have 25 gallons of a D001 stream and 30 gallons of a D002 stream and be legal. However, it could not have 55 gallons of the D001 and 55 gallons of a D002 stream.

Accumulation area - The area where satellite accumulation containers are stored for 90 or 180 days. You can store up to 6000 kg (SQG) and 20000 kg (LQG) of wastes in an accumulation area..

Based upon your description, I assume your talking about satellite containers. A couple of options. One, you can have two 25 gallon containers next to each other. Two, since both streams are D001 and assuming they are compatible have all the waste placed in a single 55 gallon drum. Three, have two 55 gallon drums separate by some reasonable distance and then define the drums as being in separate areas. Document your reasoning.

Thanks, MikeCJ. I think I'll exercise your third option and separate the two 55 gallon drums by some reasonable distance.
