  • Forktruck Question

This seems like a simple question but I can't find the answer easily.  Does any one know if it is required to have the operating manuals for forktrucks on the vehicle?

    Thanks for any help.

OSHA does not require the pre-inspection or operation manual on the forklift. But it needs to readily available when asked for (In the foreman office or in a place that all your operators know were it is).

There is only one industry that I know of that need them on the equipment and that is the Logging industry. (Because of the remot areas that they work in)

I have run into a problem with the osha standard that states when an operator has an incident the must be recertified before returning back to work but the standard does not specifiy what is passing and what is failing.  Someone help

Yes, it is a requirement. See: 29CFR 1910.178, para (L)(3)(i)(M)

This is one area in the fork truck standard that requires a owners manual.

It is not required to keep the operating manuals on the truck itself.  As long as they are accessible to the operator anytime they are operating the lift truck you are in compliance.
