We are having a heckuva time keeping workers in our plant from wearing ipods and mp3 players with headsets. THey come walking around a corner listening to Jimmy Hendrix and bam, there's a forklift bearing down on them. Anybody having any luck banning these guys? Bad enough lots of people in the office are wearing a set.

I am looking for ideas to reduce vehicle accidents. We have a sales force that is given a company car and have had a slew of fender benders. Has anyone tried to enforce a deductible program? Example : Cracked windshield- the employee would have to pay a certain $ amount.Has anyone tried to limit

that gives points for major and minor accidents (if it is their fault), major (DUI, reckless driving

THE IMPORTANT THING TO STRESS ON DRIVERS IS THAT EVEN IF AN EMPLOYEE IS ILLEGALLY WALKING AROUND WITH A HEADSET ON, THE BLAME FALLS ON THE DRIVER, FOREMOST. YOU MUST REMAIN AWARE AT ALL TIMES THAT SAFETY COMES FIRST, BUT ALSO YOUR JOB IS ON THE LINE IF YOU INJURE ANOTHER PERSON. ALL EMPLOYEES NEED TO BE TOLD ON A REGULAR BASIS THAT PIT DRIVERS NEED TO SOUND THEIR HORN AT ANY AND ALL INTERSECTIONS, ETC, BUT THAT IT COULD BE A DRIVER THAT JUST FOR THAT 1 TIME, FORGETS TO BEEP THE HORN, OR DOESN'T SLOW

I sympathize with your problem and wonder how we could reduce our risks and expense too. Your training session ideas are excellent. The deductible program sounds troublesome to me. Here are a couple of ideas we are considering: - Tie the bonus/commission payout to overall profitability of sales department, of which transportation expenses would be a component. If expenses go up, payout goes down. Or, set a bogey with an additional or separate bonus payment tied to some level of car expenses. Obviously

Does anyone have a program or have idea's in how to set up a safety charge back program as it relates to Workers Comp ensation. For example, we have multi facilities and we would like to design a program where a facility would be charged a certain amount for any lost time claim filed from their facility. We are wanting to crack down on claims, but also not discourage cover ups etc. Should it be a set amount, a percentage of the total claim cost, how would it be set up, should it come out of the building

We have multiple facilities also but our WC carrier has account information for each site so that they bill us according to account number. This way, each site is responsible for their own charges. This includes any bills paid by W/C, not just for lost time injuries.

I hear you. It's kind of like Mayor Bloomberg trying to ban cellphones in the NYC schools. Just about everybody has one and views it as their inaliable right to use it.

Well it sounds good, teamwork. But it does not work as we have found out. We have monthly lunches given for no reportable accidents for different teams of people. What happens is people quit reporting the accidents/near misses because they don't want to be given a lot of crap from their co-workers

We currently use an incentive program and I have noticed that people cover up minor accidents because they are a part of a team and they don't want to let their teammates down. I personally don't like those type programs. Programs have worked better when they wre on an individualized basis
