  • Re: Safety Incentive Programs

I myself don't like safety incentives programs. The reward always has to be worth the effort put forth, it creates under reporting and a sense of entitlement. I have everyone close thier eyes and think of a person they want to spend time with that evening or do something with in the near future. I confirm that they have an individual, and ask them how they would feel if I told them that they could be with that person or spend that time doing something with them because they were injuried or killed

  • Re: MSDS Book

My suggestion, would be to try and go electronic with your MSDS s and keep one hard copy updated for emergencies. There is another way, you can file these MSDS s with a company like 3E and they will maintain a data base for you and have 24-7 access via phone, email and be availible to print out updated copies for a hard binder. • Re: Bloodborne Pathogens

Hey Jennifer, There is one area that most companies have that was not mentioned. The facilities maintenance team... They may be required to work on toilets, clean up etc... If this is the case, then everyone should be trainied in the general awareness of BBP and how to respond to your company policy. For example: If an employee discovers body fluids they shall control access to the area and request maintenance to come and clean it up etc... Maintenance shall be trained to the full standard and understand

  • Re: PowerPoints with sound

I love power point and video combo if possible. The great thing about powerpoint is that you can chage it for different sites, audiences and regulation changes. A digital camera and your safety audit findings are great ways to bring hazard recognition into the classroom. I use the, "tell me what is wrong with this picture"? Sound adds the abilitiy for you to have consistant safety training and make it web based (for remote areas)!

American heart offers an online class. You take the class online and have skills checked off by an instructor at another time. This is a big time saver. Dana

  • Re: Fire Extinguishers

Just to clear up some of the confusion here! It is recommended for areas in sprinklered facilities with general hazards 75' travel distance. Fire extinguishers shall be at-least 4" off the floor and no higher then 3 1/2' <40# and no higher then 5' >40# (exept wheeled units). There shall be a extinguisher 50' away from flammable liquid (class B)storage. As others have stated ABC dry chem is the most commonly used in the workplace. However, you need to availuate the hazards of each area in your

  • Re: Hard Hat Safety

Adam, The first thing I would do is formally put this in writing to upper management. I would put it to them in a way that you are seeing this violation, the hazards and the citations andd fines that could result for failure the abate the problem. I would then offer up suggestions the solve the problems and then let them dicide how they will address the issue. By putting it in writing advising them they will feel that the liability is now on them and they will see the light. The documentation should

  • Re: Cut barrels and throw them in the trash?

Rather than having Safety Kleen pick them up, Contact the company you order your chemicals from and see if they will pick them up and reuse them! $savings. I would contact Zep directly if they are trying to charge you to pick them up. They would be saving a huge amont if they reuse.
