  • Re: cell phones update from peer review after Danish Study released

In my opinion, I do not know if cell phone can or cannot cause tumors. But I do know they can cause automobile accidents, rudeness in receptionists, can disturb business meetings, and the list goes on. Cell phones are like many other things in our lives, they need to have a time, a place and used in moderation. I do not know how much money was spent on the research, but this safety officer/trainer gave his opinion and it only cost 2 cents.

  • Re: What's Right vs. What's Required

First and foremost, do not allow the situation between you and the director to get out of hand. The absolute key to safety in the workplace is teamwork. One of the biggest dangers we face in the workplace today is the hazards of workplace violence . With that said, let's look at finding a way to fund the first aid kits. They could not be that expensive if you were willing to go out and buy them yourself, so obviously 'cost' is not the issue. So the options are: raise the money to buy them, or get

  • Re: October is Fire Safety Month

We use the October Fire Safety month as the kickoff for our fire safety prevention program for the year by breaking the program into 12 parts, we can continue the fire safety program all year long, which brings us back around to next October to start our fire safety program for the next year. The main reason for doing this is fire safety and personal safety in the workplace should be a number one key issue through the entire year and never set aside for 11 months.

  • Re: Fire Extinguishers

I am the Fire Cheif of the Board Camp Fire Dept. and the Trainer/Founder of Homeland America. All the fire Extinguishers in the world can't help if your people don't know how to use them. Fire extinguishers are labeled according to the type of fire on which they may be used. Fires involving wood or cloth, flammable liquids, electrical, or metal sources react differently to extinguishers. Using one type of extinguisher on the wrong type of fire could be dangerous and make matters even worse. Traditionally,

  • Re: Worker Drinking on the job

I agree with bevhunt . Don't use key words you might trigger something. The spot check is the best way to go. Plus you still have two other empolyees to protect.

  • Re: Return to Work / Light Duty

4605836: I need to develop a generic return to work program that is somewhat adaptable for many different industries such as truck drivers, office workers, manufacturing, warehouse, etc. Does anyone have a good policy they use and would be willing to share? Additionally, I need to develop a light duty policy that will provide my clients with a consistent method of identifying light duty jobs that would prevent potential discrimination by supervisors selecting more enviable tasks for some employees

  • Re: Psychosocial Hazard?

I said this before and here I go again. In the workplace today, violent situations are becoming more prevalent. The focus should be more on heading off violent situations before they happen, rather than how to deal with them after they occur. By teaching employees the importance of teamwork (TEAM-Together Everyone Achieves More) the goal of management is achieved. Employees can share in the enthusiasm and pride of a job well done, as well as the importance of each individual's contributions in working

  • Re: Degradation of Safety due to resource shortfalls

You make a good point. I said the samething in my DHS/FEMA days. Things go down hill fast without safety training . An empolyee first job is there to help Management make money. If not why have the empolyee? If the empolyee has to do their own safety training then making money for Management is not happening. If Management wants to make money they need to give the empolyee the tools to work with. Tool #1 is safety, without it you have no empolyee and then no income. Stand up for your people and your
